About The Event

Scrum, having its roots in new product development theory, is designed to help teams create, deliver and sustain complex products and services in turbulent circumstances. When adopting Scrum, the broader organization is impacted. Existing procedures, departments and functions will be impacted. Period. However, many still prefer to fit Scrum into the existing structures, rather than revising the existing structures to increase the benefits realized through Scrum. The old, industrial paradigm seems to have deep roots and a considerable half-life time. Although Scrum has no explicit rules on organizational structures and constructs, Scrum is hardly used effectively without re-thinking the structures around it. The existing flaws are significant and widely known while the presence of software in society grows exponentially, making it a critical aspect of our modern world. A much-needed system update and upgrade of organizational structures and constructs is needed. We need to start moving (your) Scrum downfield. Even though Scrum has no explicit rules on organizational structures and constructs, Gunther will share some guiding principles derived from Scrum to help you adapt the organization to Scrum, not the other way around.

“Gunther Verheyen calls himself an independent Scrum Caretaker on a journey of humanizing the workplace with Scrum. He is a longtime Scrum practitioner who started applying Scrum in 2003. He has published two acclaimed books about Scrum, was the partner of Ken Schwaber (co-creator of Scrum) and Director of the “Professional Scrum” series at Scrum.org (2013-2016).”
